A Pima Community College football player was killed, and a University of Arizona player was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on the West Side on Thursday night.
The driver, Jordan Waddell, was killed at about 11:10 near Greasewood and Anklam Roads. He was a sophomore from Fort Walton, Fla.
Waddell's mother, Tanja Waddell, said she received a text message from him about one hour before the crash.
"Tomorrow is not guaranteed," she said. "Be safe. Wear a seatbelt. Be safe. Call your parents. Call your friends. Let them know you love them."
Waddell's friend, Jasanna Johnson, said she will miss his smile.
"Everything that comes out of his mouth was super funny," Johnson said. "So that's definitely something I'm going to miss a lot."
Donovan Moore, the passenger in the vehicle, is a UA wide receiver and a former quarterback at PCC, said Libby Howell with PCC.
The woman driving the other vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Pima Community College Aztec football team will wear his initials on their uniforms for the rest of the season, Howell said.
“Jordan was very well-liked by his teammates and coaches, and was noted for his positive attitude.” she said.
