Friday Football Fever Wrapup: Week 6

Posted: Updated:

Welcome to Friday Football Fever Week 6, or as we should call it - Thursday Football Fever with a few Friday games. The schedule is slightly changed due to Yom Kippur.

Cienega 30, Salpointe 20

Billed as the game of the year in Southern Arizona High School football, two of the area's best teams squared off in Cienega. Salpointe was missing its top two running backs in Bijan Robinson (ankle tweak) and Mario Padilla (knee injury). Cienega won a close contest behind Jamarye Joiner and Terrell Hayward, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Catalina Foothills 21, CDO 7

Elijah Carey broke off a 50+ yard touchdown run early, but Chris Kowalcek and a strong defense led Catalina Foothills back to give the Falcons a big win.

Sabino 42, Catalina 0

Catalina entered its game on the road against the Sabercats 5-1, but left getting beat. Sabino's Alex Bell threw for four touchdowns and ran for a 5th and Sabino's defense stood strong. The Sabercats, again, look like a contender for the 3A crown.

Mountain View 28, Ironwood Ridge 23

Two of the best teams in the area battled up at Mountain View, and down 14-0 the Mountain Lions went to work. Bam McRae's squad outscored Matt Johnson's Nighthawks 28-9 after falling down early.

Pueblo 28, Rio Rico 0

Pueblo gets a big, and much-needed win, snapping a two-game losing streak with a strong defensive effort against the boys from down south.

Cholla 39, Desert View 36

Jordan Porter led Cholla through another shootout, as the Chargers improve to 4-3. Ryan Scherling's squad needs to play well down the stretch to make it into the 5A playoffs.

Palo Verde 45, Douglas 34

Palo Verde and Douglas engaged in another shootout on the east side. Douglas had its chances, but turnovers cost them.

Marana 55, Flowing Wells 0

Trenton Bourget didn't quite go for six touchdowns again, but had an easy time early as he threw touchdown passes to Jesus Valenzuela and Teon Simmons in a rout.

San Manuel 30, Benson 26

Miners running back Christian Velazquez followed up a 514-yard performance last week (yes, seriously, 514 yards) by helping San Manuel pull off a big win at Benson.

Pusch Ridge 56, Empire 14

Pusch Ridge continues its assault against 3A competition, as the Lions look like the best team in the state in that class. Dakota Haynes and Christian Fetsis put up some big plays for PRCA.
