Tucson Living: Keeping plants happy this Fall

Posted: Updated:

With the cool fall weather hitting Tucson, you may be seeing plants start to react to that weather.

Stephanie Vickers with Civano Nursery said with the cool weather you should be noticing more blooms and growth from your plants.

This makes a lot of people think that it is time to fertilize your plants. However, you should actually be cutting back on fertilizer since the ground is cooler and your plants aren't using as much.

You don't want to encourage too much new growth with the freeze coming in a few months.

Stephanie also said this is when you should start cutting down on how frequent you water your plants. But when you do water plants, make sure you keep the amount of water consistent.

Additionally, this is a great time of the year to get fruit trees planted into the ground before it gets too cool outside.

Civano Nursery is always happy to answer gardening questions by phone during their normal business hours.
