News 4 Cooks: Homemade Hot Apple Cider

Iron Door Restaurant: Homemade Hot Apple Cider

Ingredients for cider
2 quarts apple juice or apple cider
2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice - about 8 oranges
1 cup sugar
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground clovers or 6 whole cloves

Garnish for cups
8 orange slices - 2 oranges
8 cinnamon sticks

Take all ingredients for cider and put in 4 quart pot. Bring to a hard boil for 5 minutes, then let sit for 15 minutes to allow all spices to release their flavors.

Take one orange slice and one cinnamon stick and put in cup, then fill with your cider. You can transfer the cider to a crock pot and leave on low for serving later that day. You can also garnish your serving dish with slices of oranges to spruce it up.

This cider is also outstanding when mixed with red wine. You would do equal parts of wine and cider for this hot spiced wine beverage. You would still garnish the cup with the cinnamon stick and the orange slice for this spiced cider.

Reduce the amount of sugar by half if you decide to use a bottled orange juice or juice concentrate.
