4 Your Health: The dangers of slides and golf carts to children

Posted: Updated:

Tucson- As the use of golf carts has become increasingly popular off the course, more children are getting hurt while using them.

Researchers identified more than 100 children treated for a golf cart injury in the state of Pennsylvania. One patient died and more than a third were admitted to the intensive care unit.

The majority of children broke at least one bone and skull fractures were more common than broken arms or legs. More than a quarter suffered a concussion.

Slides and safety

Playground slides can also be dangerous when young children ride on a parent's lap.

Between 2002 and 2015, more than 350,000 kids, under six were injured while on slides with an adult.

Many of those injuries were leg fractures.

Researchers say the force generated by an adult is more likely to break a bone if a child's foot gets caught on the slide.
