Friday Football Fever: Wrapup: Week 0

Posted: Updated:

Football is back! Scream it from the rooftops! Maybe at least the pressboxes, but we had more than a dozen Southern Arizona teams in action during week 0, here are your scores and recaps:

Scottsdale Saguaro 41, Catalina Foothills 13

The 4A defending champs came into Tucson and took down the young Falcons, who made it all the way to the 4A Final Four last season. Scottsdale Saguaro might have more D1 talent than any other school in Arizona.

Salpointe Catholic 47, St. Mary's 6

Get to know Bijan Robinson. The division I recruit ran for 207 yards and 5 touchdowns on St. Mary's. Salpointe, who made the finals in Class 4A last season is looking strong again with Washington commit Matteo Mele leading the way on the offensive line.

Pueblo 58, Rincon 0

Brandon Sanders and the Pueblo Warriors are off to another good start to the season, with a 58-0 blowout of Rincon on the road.

Tucson 29, Buena 12

The Buena Colts couldn't snap a 21-game losing streak against youth-laden Tucson High, but they looked much more competitive than the past two seasons. Tight end Khalil Gardley caught two touchdown passes and recovered a fumble - he'll be a standout for the Colts. Tucson High outscored Buena 15-0 in the second half behind a strong defense and Jesus Montano at quarterback.

Ironwood Ridge 42, Marana 35

New Nighthawks Quarterback Heath Beemiller had a big game leading Ironwood Ridge to a comeback win over Marana. Both of these teams look to be a factor in Class 5A.

Catalina 31, Rio Rico 0

Catalina opens with a strong defensive performance over the Hawks, pulling out a big win.

Palo Verde 31, Tanque Verde 27

The battle of the Verdes yielded a win to Palo this time, as both teams look to recover from down seasons last year.

With "Will & Grace" returning to NBC after an 11-year hiatus, it's only natural to wonder if "Seinfeld," which aired from 1989 to 1998, will make a comeback, too. Think again.
