Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Fire crews battling the Frye Fire near Safford are also battling strep throat.

Dozens of crew members have been diagnosed with the bacterial infection, according to incident spokesperson Officer Evan Burks.

"Your immune system gets warn down fighting fights," said Burks.

Crews affected by the outbreak are being isolated at a camp. There are doctors and nursing staff on site monitoring crews' health.

Antibiotics are being administered and crews are being given at least 48 hours to recover.

State health employees will arrive on Monday to help monitor the situation.

"Everyone appreciates the well wishes from the public," said Burks.

There are 415 fire personnel working to get the blaze under control.

The Frye Fire burned 9,100 acres and is 16 percent contained. It's burning on the north side of Mount Graham near Safford.

The fire was sparked by lightening on June 7.
