Smoke filtering into southern Arizona skies

TUCSON - Wildfires burning to the northeast of Tucson are sending smoke into southern Arizona skies.

With upper level winds coming out of the northeast smoke from the Frye Fire burning near Safford, AZ is sending smoke our way. The Frye Fire, started on June 7th by lightning, is up to 6,305 acres and is only 16% contained.

There are also multiple wildfires burning upwind in New Mexico on the Gila National Forest. These wildfires total more than 28,879 acres and are also causing smoke issues. There is a Dense Smoke Advisory is in effect for Silver City, NM through Sunday.
