What’s Driving You Crazy: Park Avenue and Helen Street

Posted: Updated:

Crosswalks near the University of Arizona are "driving you crazy."

Joe uses the crosswalk at Park Avenue and Helen Street a lot.  He said it's marked, but drivers don't pay attention to that!

He told us, "I've seen other pedestrians and U of A students almost nearly get hit by a car! I have almost been hit by a car and had to get out of the way quickly!"

Here's what we found out from the U of A Police Department. This intersection is not in their jurisdiction, but they checked it out for you anyway since it's near U of A.

While they didn't see any issues when they were out there, they can see how it could be dangerous. Drivers speed southbound to beat the traffic light. They said it's hard to tell who's attempting to cross when people are standing on the sidewalk.

They recommend using the crosswalk at Speedway and Park. It’s at a signaled intersection, which is usually a safer option.
