The Arizona Department of Transportation wants drivers to be aware of how they can prevent wildfires from breaking out along state highways.
Last week, a fire started on State Route 87 near Payson was started because of vehicle dragging chains along the roadway.
ADOT wants motorists to be aware of the following tips to prevent another brush fire and traffic congestion.
- Avoid parking in tall grass because the heat from under the car can start a fire
- Make sure nothing is hanging on your vehicle and dragging on the pavement
- Check your vehicles tire pressure before you hit the road because exposed wheel rims can send sparks flying
