4 Your Health: Pot plus alcohol equals bad grades and lack of sleep could be deadly

Posted: Updated:

Tucson- Sleep problems may increase a person's risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Chinese researchers looked at sleep and health data from over 150-thousand adults. They found insomniacs were more likely to have a heart attack or stroke, especially those who had trouble falling asleep.

Experts say sleep loss may have harmful effects on a person's metabolism and blood pressure.

Pot and alcohol bad for grades

Heavy marijuana use plus heavy drinking may equal a low GPA for college students.

A Yale University study of one-thousand college freshmen, found alcohol use alone had minimal impact on academic performance. But those who drank and smoked pot were most likely to have bad grades.

Students who cut back on their use of both the weed and alcohol saw their GPA's improve in later semesters.
