4 Your Health: Another reason to cut back on salt and news about breast-feeding

Posted: Updated:

Tucson- Breastfeeding may reduce hyperactivity in young children.

Researchers studied about eight thousand families living in Ireland. They found children who were breast-fed exclusively for six months had fewer hyperactive behaviors than other infants but only until the age of three.

There was also no link between breastfeeding and children's cognitive abilities.

Less salt means fewer bathroom visits

Cutting back on salt may reduce the need to urinate.

Japanese scientists asked a group of seniors, who complained of frequent overnight trips to the bathroom, to follow a low-salt diet. 12 weeks later, most were urinating less frequently during the night and reported a better quality of life.

Researchers also reported that the seniors who consumed more salt had to urinate more often.
