4 Your Health:  People with high blood pressure not taking their meds

Posted: Updated:

Tucson- Many people with high blood pressure are not taking their medications correctly.

Researchers in the Netherlands made the discovery while conducting a study on other treatments for hard to control hypertension.

Only 20 percent of the patients were taking all of their prescribed medications but 20 percent were not taking any at all. Health professionals urge patients to be honest with their doctors if they don't want to take their pills for any reason because there may be other effective options or dosages.

Young cancer patients death rate higher than thought

Children diagnosed with cancer are living longer but early deaths from the disease may be more common than previously thought.

A new study finds the number of children who die within a month of being diagnosed is four times higher than implied by research from clinical trials. And kids under the age of one, were most likely to die soon after diagnosis, as were minority children regardless of socio-economic status.

Many of these children do not live long enough to receive treatment or their disease is too far advanced by the time they are diagnosed.
