Community discusses the dangers of human trafficking

Posted: Updated:

A community gathered to discuss the dangers of human trafficking, Monday night.

On this "Human Trafficking Awareness Month" people gathered at "The Loft Cinema," to watch a free screening of "Tricked." The movie documents he proliferation of trafficking and its threat to young people.

Tucson city leaders say we typically see a spike in sex trafficking when tourists come to town.

"Every time you have an outside event coming to any community, whether it be a sporting event or the gem show, the numbers of trafficking incidents spike. That's the reason that, January being Tucson Traffic Awareness Month, we're holding this event here tonight, to give awareness to people that the gem show is here. That means the young in this community are vulnerable," said city council member Steve Kozochik.

The night ended with a panel discussion, talking about the local impact.
