The Tucson Unified School district approved the placement of a statue honoring Christoper Moon at Cherry Field.
Moon passed away at 20 in 2010 while deployed in Afghanistan as a member of the United States Armed Forces.
He was a local Tucsonan who went to Tucson High Magnet School and was on the baseball team at the U of A during the fall of his freshman year.
Shortly after his fall semester he enlisted in the army and was deployed.
Moon told his coach, Andy Lopez, that he wished to rescind his scholarship and was leaving school to fulfill his childhood dream of serving his country, according to TUSD.
The statue will honor Chris Moon and other THMS graduates who have died in the line of duty. The statue will be free for TUSD since it was fully funded by donations.
