TUSD families, students spread holiday cheer

Posted: Updated:

The magic of the holiday season is hitting home for several families Friday in the Tucson Unified School District.

There was plenty of holiday cheer Friday as families in the district received gifts from the students, staff and parents at Fruchthendler Elementary. It is all part of the school's annual "Families Helping Families" drive.

Every year the school adopts families and helps make holiday wishes come true. The tradition started back in 1989 with eight families.

Friday, students and staff at Fruchthendler Elementary made a special delivery to a family of seven.

"Our community was able to pull together and get them everything on their wishlist," said Claudia Ibarra, PTA vice president of Frutchthendler. "We're just so excited to be delivering this with some of our students today."

Since 1989, Fruchthendler Elementary has adopted more than 300 families through its "Families Helping Families" program.
