Arizona volleyball beats Cleveland State, advances to second round

The Arizona volleyball team beat Cleveland State in three sets in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the second round on Friday in East Lansing, Mich.

For the Wildcats, this is the fourth year in a row they have made the NCAA Tournament, while making it into the second round for the third time since 2013.

Arizona dominated the Vikings in all three sets, winning 25-14, 25-17, and 25-13.

All-Pac-12 member Kalei Mau had a game-high 17 kills, while Devyn Cross added 10.

Pac-12 Setter of the Year Penina Snuka had a game-high 15 assists and 13 digs.

Laura Larson added 12 digs, while Katrina Pilepic and Kendra Dahlke had nine and seven kills.

With the win, Arizona will play the winner of Michigan State/Fairfield on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MST, with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen at-stake. Michigan State is the No. 9 overall in the tournament.

The Wildcats have not reached the Sweet Sixteen since 2005.

Arizona is 19-14 on the season, finishing eighth in the Pac-12 with a 10-10 conference record.
