Rodriguez laments injuries at presser

Posted: Updated:

Rich Rodriguez started his Monday press conference by citing Arizona's injury report. He said there are 28 players listed, 18 of them starters.

Arizona has 85 scholarship players, so more than a third of the team is in some state of injury.
Quarterback was the latest position to get hit as Brandon Dawkins hurt his ribs Saturday night against UCLA in the 2nd quarter. RichRod said it happened on one play, but he's not sure which one.

That spurred the coach to burn the redshirt on 17 year-old freshman Khalil Tate. With Anu Solomon not even traveling to Pasadena, and Brandon Dawkins nursing sore ribs, Tate may be the guy.

"He's a competitive guy and he wanted to play," said Rodriguez of Dawkins. "If you're trying to throw and run and it's hard to breathe because your ribs are sore, that's a tough deal."

"When Anu went down a few weeks ago, we've taken an equal amount of reps with the twos and Zach and Khalil split those," continued Rodriguez.
