Pictures of Hope helps homeless youth achieve dreams

Posted: Updated:

For homeless Tucson youth, a picture may be worth more than a thousand words thanks to photojournalist Linda Solomon and her program, Pictures of Hope.

On Saturday, the award-winning program will provide a photography lesson to kids who participate in the housing and homeless programs of New Beginnings, the housing and homeless services division of Our Family Services. They will then be given a digital camera and sent on a life-changing assignment to visually capture their dreams.

“Through photography, youth share their innermost feelings,” said Solomon. “Their hopes and dreams captured in quiet moments tell a story that few adults can imagine.  We show the youth how much their hopes and dreams matter."

Mentors, including Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and News 4 Tucson staff, will be at the event to help the kids. With help from Linda Schlesinger Wagner, international fashion designer and entrepreneur, this project was able to continue for its sixth year.
