Crime Trackers: Arrests made in mansion parties

Posted: Updated:

Several people are under arrest on the heels of a story News 4 Tucson first aired about break-ins and parties at expensive homes, some of which were trashed.

Most of the homes were located in the Tucson Mountains.

News 4 Tucson obtained cell phone video of one of those parties. Teenagers as young 14 and some adults destroyed other people's property in the worst way imaginable.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department said between July and August, nearly a dozen homes have been broken into, partied in and vandalized.

"We have made a couple of arrests," said Sheriff Chris Nanos. "We will continue to look at evidence as it comes in and we will continue to work the case until its resolved."

The arrests involve juveniles, and a 22-year-old airman from Davis-Monthan was questioned. Other people have been interviewed, which has led to additional investigative leads.

"We don't want kids out there busting into houses," said Nanos. "That's not what we're about."

The investigation continues. However, there were some reports that Nanos had interfered with the investigation because his chief deputy may have had a relative involved in the case.

"No, that never played into this," said Nanos. "It never will."

Nanos did interfere with keeping investigators from going into nine different schools to seize cell phones that belonged to students.

He told News 4 Tucson, he redirected the detectives to go to the homes of the students.

"Shouldn't you be better off by talking to the parents?" said Nanos. "Let the parents take their role in this. Let the parents take some of this on themselves. Many of those parents haven't a clue as to what's going on. "

At this time, at least a half dozen cell phones have been seized.  Detectives are going through the information that's been downloaded.
