Jack In the Box Player of the Week, Week 4: Alex Courtemanche

Posted: Updated:

"A mini-hummer, a little tank, they give him the ball and they give it to him a lot, we just gotta hope that we get in front of him."

That's Sahuaro Coach Scott Mckee describing Desert View running back Alex Courtemanche as various all-terrain vehicles.

The mini-hummer or little tank had a big week for Desert View, leading a second- half comeback.

"Just in the first half we didn't really bring too much of a fight with us, but then in the second half we made adjustments and everybody just like got up for the moment and finished," said Courtemanche.

Courtemanche has more than 900 yards already in just four games with his punishing physical running style, including 278 yards and 3 touchdowns against Sahuaro.

"I just try to be physical so that way it gives me room to move around, make them not want to have contact with me," said Courtemanche.

Which comes from the weight room work he put in this off-season.

"(He's) a kid that went into the weight room and like every day and just little by little started getting bigger and stronger," said Desert View coach Robert Bonillas.

Courtemanche can squat 530 pounds and bench press 350, according to the running back.

And with that leg strength, one defender has no chance at tackling him; two or three defenders might not even have a shot.

According to teammates, it takes three to four defenders to take down Courtemanche in practice.

And he's got the Jaguars roaring through an undefeated season so far.

"(He's) a good hard worker, he feeds off his teammates," said Bonillas.
