Brats for Beginners

When picking a bratwurst, choose one that is finely grounded to ensure better taste.

If the brat is raw be sure to broil it for 4 to 5 minutes before cooking it.

1.On the BBQ

Heat the grill at a medium heat, and brush the bratwursts with cooking oil. Place the brats in the center of the grill and close the lid, turning the brat every 3 minutes until cooked. Make sure the brat is heated to at least 165 degrees in the center to ensure it’s fully cooked.

2.Broil

Set the oven to broil, fill a pan one-quarter full of dark beer and place the brats in the pan. Turn the brat after 4 minutes in the oven, and remove the pan after 8 minutes in the oven.

3.Deep Fry

Heat the deep fryer to 370 degrees and place the fryer basket in the fryer then gently drop the brats in. They should cook in approximately 4 to 5 minutes. Eat these brats right away so they don’t lose their plumpness.

4.In the Oven

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place the brats in a pan and fill one-quarter of the pan with water or beef stock. Place the brats in the in oven and turn them after 30 minutes, they should be golden brown. Then, cook the brats for another 20 to 30 minutes. Use the leftover broth from the pan as au jus, to dip your brat.

5.Pan Fray

Heat a pan on the stove for a few minutes until it’s hot. Place bratwurst on pan, it should sear immediately, turn the brat as needed. Add sauerkraut to pan and reduce the heat to allow the bratwurst to absorb the flavor of the sauerkraut.
