TUCSON -

The town of Ajo received nearly 50 bikes Tuesday to help encourage residents make healthier lifestyle choices.

Ajo Middle School will acquire 36 bikes, funded by the federal Transportation Alternatives Program funds and Pima County funds. The school also received a delivery of 600 helmets a few weeks earlier.

Another dozen bikes were given to Desert Senita Community Health Center. Funding for those bikes came from a grant from the Arizona Planning Association’s Plan4Health program and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The bike delivery was provided by a partnership between Pima County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program, and the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
