The BYU Cougars handed Arizona an opening loss, 18-16, at University of Phoenix Stadium at the Cactus Kickoff Classic.

Cougars Freshman Kick Jake Oldroyd hit a 33-yard chip shot field goal to put BYU up for good with four seconds remaining. The kick was the first career try for Oldroyd.

Arizona started Anu Solomon at quarterback and he proceeded to go 20-30 for 216 yards and 2 interceptions with no passing touchdowns.

Arizona running back Nick Wilson ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns, including a 49 yard breakaway in the fourth quarter to give Arizona a 16-15 lead.

The team honored Wildcat lineman Zach Hemmila, who passed away during fall camp, before the game. The team brought out Hemmila's jersey as part of the team's captains and played a tribute video before kickoff.
