What's Driving You Crazy: Cienega High School Traffic

Posted: Updated:

Traffic gets clogged during the morning rush at a school in Vail.

Myken said, "You should investigate the problem of exiting from Cienega High School during morning drop off. I've been stuck at that exit for more than 20 minutes on some mornings. Something definitely needs to be done as I'm seeing more impatient parents engaging in aggressive and risky driving because of it."

We checked out the backup during the morning rush. There aren't any traffic lights or signs there. As we watched, drivers waited to make a left turn onto Mary Ann Cleveland. Meanwhile, the line for traffic turning left into the high school only grew longer.

We contacted Pima County Department of Transportation to see what could be done to fix the issue. Pima County contacted the superintendent of the Vail School District. He admitted that during school arrival and dismissal it is difficult to make a turn there.

The County will start a traffic study of the driveway before the school year ends.
