What’s Driving You Crazy: Sharing the road

Posted: Updated:

This week, we’re talking about sharing the road.

“Drivers need to be educated on bicycle laws. [I’m] sick of being screamed at to ‘get on the sidewalk where I belong’,” said Christine. “The number one problem is that they don’t seem to know that is illegal for me to ride a bike on the sidewalk.”

According to Tucson bicycle law, it is illegal to ride on a sidewalk or pedestrian path unless a sign says that is allowed.

When a cyclist violates this law, they can be fined up to $25.

When you encounter a cyclist on the road, remember Arizona law requires that drivers give a cyclist at least three feet of space when passing.

Five feet is recommended.
