What’s Driving You Crazy: I-10 Yielding

Posted: Updated:

We're talking driving etiquette on Interstate 10 this week.

Ellen said, "What drives me crazy are the vehicles that enter I-10 without yielding to the traffic already traveling at a higher speed. Many times both lanes of I-10 must slow or stop, because the incoming traffic refuses to yield even when a yield sign is present. These drivers are dangerous, selfish and inconsiderate. Why is there no enforcement for this traffic rule? Has there been a change in the law?"

According to Arizona law "a vehicle entering a freeway from an acceleration lane, a ramp or any other approach shall yield the right-of-way to a vehicle on the main roadway of the freeway entering the merging area at the same time."

It goes without saying that not doing this could lead to a crash, especially in heavy traffic. When troopers see a violation like this, they can either issue a citation or warning. Meanwhile if you see someone driving recklessly, you can report that.
