N4T Investigators: Pima County Sheriff's detectives investigating death of toddler in Three Points

Posted: Updated:

Pima County Sheriff's detectives are investigating the death of a toddler in Three Points, about 25 miles southwest of Tucson. Was it a clear-cut case of child abuse, or is there much more to the story?

According to court documents uncovered by Kristi's Kids, authorities were called to a Three Points mobile home back on March 12th, to a report a 20-month-old boy who wasn't breathing. About 30-minutes later, he was pronounced dead.

Pima County Sheriff's detectives got a Search Warrant, and confiscated cell-phones, half-a-dozen pill bottles, at least four pipes, a bong, and other items from inside the home. Curt documents also reveal, the toddler wasn't supposed to be with his mother. He had been taken from her by the state at birth, and was supposed to have supervised visits only. Investigators say instead, the mother had been staying at the home where he died.
A autopsy revealed the boy had suffered numerous injuries, which were in various stages of healing. The  injuries included  seven rib fractures, bruising to his head, and swelling in his brain. Investigators haven't made an arrest yet, telling Kristi's Kids they need the complete autopsy report, including toxicology information. Investigators tell Kristi's Kids, that could take up to six-weeks.
The toddler died less than two-weeks ago, so it could take another month to hear about charges. We anted to know how this mother was allowed to gain so much access to her son, so we asked the Arizona Department of Child Safety about the case. However, they have not responded to our request.
