Crime Trackers: Sex offender is found with kiddie porn

TUCSON -

A convicted sex offender is behind bars.

Pima County Adult Probation officers said Justin Coraggio broke his probation orders by going back on the internet.

News 4 Tucson uncovered a revealing search warrant about Coraggio’s smartphone that was confiscated by his probation officer. According to a search warrant, the 25-year-old man admitted he was using the internet to access pornography.

Libby Pilchner is Coraggio's probation officer. She said he was convicted of public sexual indecency last September and was given probation.

On Feb. 29, Pilchner and her partner conducted a home visit after Coraggio was not answering his phone, which is a violation of his probation. She later learned there were other violations.

“He was not to have access to the internet," said Pilchner. "When he gave the phone over to me, I noticed it was a smartphone, and I asked if he had been accessing the internet and he said that he had been.”

He admitted he was using the internet to access pornography.

He also revealed there was a website written on a memo in his phone. It was a child pornography website.

“It was very concerning to me, as some of the images appeared to be of minor children and what could be constituted as child pornography," said Pilchner. "I felt it was best we confiscate the phone and turn it over to law enforcement.”

Tucson Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children responded, took the phone and analyzed the contents.

Coraggio was later arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail.

He is now facing four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

His bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety.

“We have to take action because our first obligation is community safety," said Pilchner. "We don't want someone outside to be committing new crimes or offenses that could be dangerous to the public."

Pima County Adult Probation said because he violated conditions of probation, there is a hold on him. That means there will be no bond on the original charge.
