He was well known in the Catalina-area as a man who was always helping others.
71-year-old Bob Behl was murdered just before Christmas. Someone also stole numerous weapons and other items from his house.
Pima County Sheriff's homicide detectives need the public's help to find the person responsible.
Holding back tears, Tamara Amick said, “I don't know who out there would have wanted to do something like that to a man like Bob. “
Amick spent the holidays without her longtime friend.
“Bob was always a giving person and always had something for everyone,” said Amick.
Behl could barely walk, but he was always there to help people.
“He didn't know how to say no to people," said Amick. "He was always here, here, and people took advantage of his situation.”
Homicide detective Chris Hogan is working the case. He said a friend, who helped 71-year-old Behl, found him unresponsive on Dec. 19 around 9 p.m.
Behl had been shot inside the home. Some of his property was missing, including several firearms, which are still outstanding. PCSD said they are trying to track down.
Hogan said it's important they find the firearms.
“Somebody breaks into a person's home, kills them [and[ takes [their] guns, it gives the potential that they could be used in other crimes,” said Hogan.
Behl was a trusting soul. He often left his doors unlocked . Perhaps it’s his trusting soul that ultimately led to his death.
“It's something that he clearly was taken advantage of," said Hogan. "This wasn't just a random act. Someone knew he was an old man who couldn't get around and likely couldn't defend himself.”
“If you're cold-blooded enough to come in and murder Mr. Bill, you know what, he'd been in this town many, many years, and if you knew him you wouldn't have done this,” said Amick.
His friends said they won't rest until the person responsible is brought to justice. If you have information call 88 CRIME or 911.
