SIERRA VISTA - Corporal Mike Mitchell is on paid administration leave as the FBI helps investigate unspecified allegations.

Sierra Vista Police Department is investigating one of their own.  A complaint was filed against Cpl. Mitchell last month.

“We are held to a high standard," Deputy Chief Adam Thrasher said. "When a complaint comes in, we investigate all complaints against our employees.”

Deputy Chief Thrasher would not reveal what the complaint was.

“It will be a thorough investigation," he said. "Once it's complete, we will be able to release more information about the case.”

He said he has consulted with the FBI to look over the investigation.

Cpl. Mitchell has been with the department since 2004.  He's currently assigned as a supervisor of the Community Response Team.  He's also a K-9 handler who oversees most of the drug case investigations.

Because of that position,  Cochise County Attorney Brian McIntyre ordered his office to dismiss some of those cases without prejudice. That means they can be refiled at a later date.

“It does create an issue for both the county and the city," said Chief Deputy Thrasher. "They always do whenever we have an administrative investigation.”

Nubian Amon-Ra's case was dismissed on Monday. He's currently serving seven-and-a-half-years in prison for assault.

Kristina Dunn has been with Amon-Ra for 18 years.  While they're elated the charges have been dropped, she said she's disappointed by the reason.

“How does this happen?" said Dunn. "How does somebody you are supposed to believe in that's out there to protect you and serve the public.”

Deputy Chief Thrasher said he doesn't know when the investigation will be completed.  Until then, Corporal Mike Mitchell will remain on administrative leave.
