TUCSON - A serial burglar who targeted the northwest side of town is behind bars -- again.

Garret Loera was released from jail last week. Detectives say two days later he was in neighborhood burglarizing a house when he left behind his release paperwork from the jail.

Since April 4, detectives have been looking for Loera.

In that time, they say he burglarized three homes in the Ina and Silverbell area and made off with about $3,000 worth of items, including weapons. Detectives say he broke into the houses through unlocked doors and windows.

The Foothills Directed Patrol Unit found him last Wednesday night on the northwest side.

“Mr. Loera initially denied any sort of involvements or anything like that,” said Det. Hans Goritz.

“We found a handgun that had just been stolen yesterday afternoon and subsequently found other items that had been stolen,” Goritz said.

One victim, in talking to his neighbor, said he had been burglarized. The neighbor mentioned giving a ride to a man with a backpack.

“He gave me a couple of gift cards and some sunglasses. The victim goes, ‘those are my daughter's sunglasses and I coincidently was missing four gift cards two of which you just gave me,'” Goritz said.

Jacqueline Huckabee, lives in the area and is quite concerned.

“Living with my mother, I want to make sure she stays safe,” she said.

“We might just have to gear that up a little more and get back into communication with the neighborhood watch group,” Goritz said.
