TUCSON - Some Sahuaro High School parents said their children were suspended for a fight they tried to avoid, after an after-school confrontation broke out on Monday, Jan. 26.
Six friends were trying to avoid the confrontation.
"[The fight occurred] just because one girl didn't like what another girl was wearing," said parent Trina Petroshus. "Absolutely ridiculous."
Petroshus' son was among the group that was jumped on Monday.
"They were lying on the ground being beaten," said Petroshus. "While they laid down on the ground, they kept on trying to get away.
Another boy tried to help him, and that is when the crowd became more violent.
"Up on the forehead up here was busted. Open bleeding down his right back shoulder, halfway down his back was cut open," said parent Ray Vega.
Vega's son has been to the emergency room twice.
"He's got concussions," said Vega. "We need to get him to a neurologist and we need to do an MRI."
Trishnak Kay Trachsel's daughter used a skateboard to try and help the victims. Now, she's being suspended.
"It was really hard to watch and to see that happen, it's heart breaking," she said.
"Our kids could be in trouble because they fought back and it's clear they didn't," said Petroshus. "My kid's at home because he's too scared to go to school. Those ones are sitting in their desk right now, talking about it and threatening that they are going to have a rematch."
TUSD issued a statement saying the district does not tolerate this behavior and that all the students found to be involved will be held accountable.
