TUCSON - On this day we give thanks for what we have.
One family is giving thanks by returning to the Ronald McDonald house to prepare the Thanksgiving Day meal with all the trimmings.
They are thanking them for the years of care they gave their family, during a very difficult time.
A year ago their 13 year old Rachel determan, died of leukemia.
The Ronald McDonald house was a second home to the Yuma family for nearly three years.
Rachel's mother Sarah says "This place is very dear to me and they extended their helping hand always so I thought I could help so here I am."
She's preparing the thanksgiving meal for the families of the Ronald McDonald house, Rachel's favorite dishes from Rachel's own cookbook.
Rebecca, her oldest daughter, is also helping and remembering her little sister. "She was the cook, so I'm trying to make dessert; cross your fingers I hope o do well. But yeah, miss her very much."
Dad and brother stayed in Yuma because of a high school wrestling match.
Mom and sis have been in the kitchen all day, adding that special ingredient, love. That's just what's needed on this day of giving thanks.
The Cowell's from Chandler are ever so thankful for the special meal.
Their son, Colton has leukemia and had a bone marrow transplant 34 days ago. They've been at the Ronald McDonald house since October.
The two families know exactly what each other are going thru.
Erika Cowell says, "Its heart breaking, and it's scary, yet they can still find good and do good for other people is amazing."
They say friends are like angels and today the Determan's are giving back to the Ronald McDonald house in memory of their daughter.
Since 1981, the Ronald McDonald house charities of southern Arizona has opened its doors to more than 7-thousand families.
