TUCSON - With so many four-legged friends calling The Humane Society of Southern Arizona home, Lyndsay Bruno says there's always a need for your gently used items.
"Any type of linens or anything you have like blankets are very important that we always need here," Bruno said.
And it doesn't stop there. Bath mats, towels, pillow cases, place mats, sponges, and even clothing can give one of these homeless pups something to cuddle with.
"We can cut them into smaller pieces, whether it be robes or t-shirts...anything that would be similar to a blanket or towel really," Bruno continued.
So now that we've tackled those items, what about your other home goods?
Terry Dee, from the Habitat for Humanity HabiStore, says "there's definitely a home for everything. There's always a second life."
Unlike some other local thrift shops, the HabiStore accepts many items you may not expect.
"We sell everything from furniture and appliances to doors and windows," Dee continued.
Not only does the store keep things from going to the landfill, the money generated also helps some very special Tucsonans.
"Right now we have over 14 houses under construction in Tucson. That's going to affect 14 different families, this year alone," Dee said.
Finally, if you want to slim down your closet and fatten up your wallet, why not think about places such as the Buffalo Exchange.
Unlike donation only stores, they actually buy your clothes and accessories back from you. You bring them in, they pick what they can sell, and you choose to get back 35% in cash, or 50% in store credit. Libby Paguaga, the store manager says now is a great time to come by.
"This is the best opportunity to bring your stuff in and let us take a look through them," she said.
Currently, it's what the store calls a transitional period, so whily they usually take items that are the best of the season, they're accepting a wider array of styles right now.
"In preparation for busier months like may, we sort of definitely need more stuff within our stores," Paguaga continued.
Additionally, both the HabiStore and Buffalo Exchange will accept your items that they can't sell. They then turn them over to different local non profits, making your Spring cleaning even more convenient.
