Would-be bank robber thwarted in Tucson

TUCSON - A suspect who attempted to rob a southside Wells Fargo Tuesday is being sought by police.

Police are asking for the public's help identifying the suspect, a man described as being white or HIspanic and in his mid 20s to mid 30s weighing about 185 pounds, Tucson Police Sgt. Maria Hawke said.

Surveillance video showed the suspect was wearing a dark, long sleeved shirt, tan pants and dark sunglasses when he entered the Wells Fargo at 802 W. Ajo Way.

The suspect approached the teller and handed her a note demanding money or she'd get hurt, Hawke said. The teller, protected behind a bullet-proof barrier, announced that the bank was being robbed and ducked behind the counter.

The suspect fled empty handed and got away in a newer model silver colored car. No one was injured, Hawke said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
