TUCSON - An eastside woman's chihuahua was killed Monday morning when it was attacked by a pitbull who escaped its yard.
The woman was walking her three dogs at about 9:30 a.m. near Camino Seco and Irvington when the pitbull pushed through a fenced yard and attacked, Tucson Police spokesman Sgt. Brandon Tatum said.
A neighbor heard the woman scream and came out to help. He tried to get the attacking dog to release the chihuahua but couldn't. He evenutally had to punch the dog in the head to let it go. The pitbull released the chihuahua and attacked a second dog. The neighbor was able to pull the pitbull off that time and restrained it near a tree.
The chihuahua and the other injured dog were taken to a vet. The chihuahua died from the injury. Pima Animal Care has the pitbull detained in an official vehicle at the scene. We'll have the latest at noon.
