TUCSON - Thieves who broke into an east side woman's home made-off with an urn holding her best friends ashes.
Elizabeth Steele says the urn contained remains of 50-year-old Catherine Wilson, who succumbed to brain cancer two years ago.
"I feel like I lost her again," Steele said.
Coming home late on January 31st, Steel says she knew something was wrong, "I usually don't leave my hallway doors open. Then I noticed this is the bathroom window they came right in."
After calling police Steele says she called Wilson's brother John Clarke immediately, "She called me distraught and explained the situation," says Clarke. "All she kept saying was I can't believe they took Catherine. There's a piece of her missing and it's not with family."
Steele says the bedroom was in shambles. Also missing is her laptop, a five disk DVD player and more valuable electronics. "I don't care about the other stuff but I want those ashes back."
She says the urn was sitting on a nightstand next to her bed. "Her family was the most important thing in the world to her. I think about her a lot, because we had a lot of fun together."
A single woman living alone, Steele says she owned a gun, which the thieves took. "I'm afraid it's in the wrong hands."
Family says more of Wilsons ashes are in their possession. Still, they say it's hard knowing a part of her is missing.
