Woman injured in bear attack near Payson; campground closed

PAYSON, Ariz. - There's been a bear attack at a campground near Payson today.

It happened at the Ponderosa campground in the Tonto National Forest around 4:30 this morning: a 74-year old woman was sleeping in a tent with her husband and their dog when a bear ripped a hole in the tent and began clawing the woman.

She suffered lacerations to her scalp and bruises, and while her husband and dog were not hurt, the campground has now been closed as a precaution.
