TUCSON - Police are investigating a possible homicide after a woman was found dead in a midtown apartment Sunday morning.
According to Tucson Police Sgt. Pete Dugan, a neighbor went to check on the woman-- who has not been identified yet-- and found her inside her apartment near Blacklidge and Geronimo with obvious signs of trauma.
Dugan said neighbors reported sounds of shots fired overnight but no 9-1-1 calls were made then. Authorities do not believe the shots fired were related to this incident.
A small child was found in the apartment alone at the time. The child is unharmed and is currently being taken care of.
Detectives have not determined a cause of death yet as it is the early stages of the investigation.
No suspect information has been released yet.
Police urge anyone with information related to the incident to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
