Phoenix - Earlier today, a multiple-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 near Casa Grande was attributed to a heavy dust storm. This afternoon and evening, a winter storm is in the forecast, and is expected to bring rain, snow and wind to various parts of the state.

Whether you’re commuting to/from work, finishing holiday shopping or are one of the 1.8 million Arizonans departing for a Christmas-New Year’s road-trip, AAA Arizona would like to encourage motorists to exercise caution and offer the following inclement weather driving tips:

· Slow down! One of the best ways motorists can reduce their risk of crashing is to simply slow down and take their time.

· Keep a safe distance of at least five seconds behind other vehicles. In severe conditions, increase this distance to eight to 10 seconds.

· Do not engage your vehicle’s cruise control as it can cause you to lose control of your vehicle in wet weather conditions.

· Be aware of potentially icy areas such as shady spots and bridges.

· Do not over-pack your vehicle. It is more difficult to stop a heavy vehicle in wet weather.

· Let someone know your route and when you will arrive at your destination.

· Pack an emergency car kit that includes at least: flashlight, flares, jumper cables, a little tool kit, cell phone and duct tape for short-term repair of a broken hose (but only to the next service station).

· Carry extra food, water, clothes and blankets in your vehicle.
