Winds slowly calm down, 80s continue

TUCSON - Gusty winds bring the return of the 80s.

The strong winds grounded the Thunderbirds at the Thunder and Lightning Air Show today with gusts peaking in Tucson at 35mph. Even stronger winds were experienced across Cochise County with gusts between 40-50mph for places like Sierra Vista and Douglas.

Winds will calm down into this evening and we'll trade the windy for breezy conditions heading into Sunday afternoon. Cochise County will see the strongest winds tomorrow with gusts between 30-35mph while Tucson's winds should stay below 20mph. Winds will be much lighter heading into Monday and Tuesday.

The same disturbance that kicked up the winds brought back the 80s this afternoon for the first time in a few days, topping out at 84 degrees in Tucson. We'll see steady temperatures in the mid to upper 80s under generally sunny skies right on into next week.
