TUCSON - Nearly 30 players ran wind sprints in the rain as practice dwindled at Arizona Stadium on Saturday.
"You used to wonder what kind of shape guys will be in," said Rodriguez following practice, "but now, there's no mystery because we can be around more in the summer. I knew who was in shape and out of shape and this further clarified it at the end of practice. Those guys that are out of shape will be joining me in the morning for what we call the breakfast club."
Rodriguez did admit he was pleased with the overall effort of the Wildcats, who open their season by hosting UNLV on August 29th.
"The effort was good, the intensity was good but hell we're not playing a game for awhile so I'm not worried," he said. "I would be worried if they weren't ready or excited to practice. But I think they were ready and excited to practice, so it's all good."
RichRod did announce bad news following practice. Safety Tra'Mayne Bondurant has left the team under his own power. According to Rodriguez, Bondurant was disciplined in the off-season but never met the requirements of his disciplinary actions.
The news comes as a blow to the Wildcat defense. Bondurant had 72 tackles, four interceptions and two sacks a year ago.
Junior Will Parks is expected to fill the void left by Bondurant.
