Wildcats advance to Elite 8, top SDSU 70-64

ANAHEIM, CA - The shooting percentage wasn't there. Neither was the rebounding. But with the game on the line, Arizona's defense once again rose to the occasion.

Arizona forced 10 San Diego State turnovers and made key free throws down the stretch to top the Aztecs 70-64 in the Sweet 16 matchup.

The Wildcats went 19-25 from the free throw line, including a perfect 10-10 from Nick Johnson. The Wooden Award finalist was held scoreless for a majority of the game, but scored 13 straight points in the final 2:45 of the ball game. He finished with 15 points.

Aaron Gordon and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson kept the Wildcats in the game, despite trailing by four at halftime. The freshmen each scored 15 points for coach Sean Miller.

Xavier Thames had 25 in a losing effort for SDSU.

The Wildcats now move to the Elite 8 against 2-seed Wisconsin. That game will be Saturday night in Anaheim. The tipoff time is yet to be determined.
