TUCSON - Dedicated Cats Basketball fans are stocking up on pride as the official 'Sweet 16' t-shirts hit the shelves early Monday morning while others secured tickets to the game.
"We are big UA fans and the moment they won, it was time to buy t-shirts... hoping to buy 'Elite 8' shirts next," said Melissa Mares, a junior at the UA.
Shirts are available at UA bookstores and online.
Others describe the electricity on campus as students return to campus following Spring Break.
"I think there's definitely a vibe... an excitement going on on-campus right now," said UA student Ben Rosenfield.
That's also the case for folks trying to get their hands on some 'Sweet 16' game tickets.
"We're very fortunate. Obviously we had a great following of Wildcat fans in Las Vegas, San Diego and now we anticipate a large following in Anaheim as well," said James Francis of UA Athletics.
However, only about 1,200 tickets were alloted to the University to share among athletes, the team's travel party and students.
A limited number of the remaining tickets is then offered up to fans, which is prioritized on a point-based system.
"We want to reward the folks who are season ticket holders and wildcat members who accumulated those points, using those points to help rank and allocate those tickets," Francis said.
The tickets through UA Athletics are already spoken for. However, there are still other options for Cats fans hoping to head to Anaheim, including internet ticket brokers like PrimeSport.com
Still, die-hard fans are exuberant. "People know the potential that this team has and we're excited to see what this team can do on a national stage, showing the whole country what we're capable of," Rosenfield.
This is the Wildcats' third appearance in the 'Sweet 16' in the last four years but have wracked up 16 appearances overall.
The UA has also made nine 'Elite Eight' appearances, four showings in the Final Four and one National Championship back in 1997.
