White House disappointed in Boehner response

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says it's disappointed that House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) isn't sending the entire Republican caucus to the White House tomorrow. They were all invited, but Boehner is instead just sending 18 Republicans -- the elected leadership and select committee chairmen.

Spokesman Jay Carney says Obama had wanted to talk directly with the lawmakers who Carney says "forced this economic crisis on the country." He says Obama wanted to tell them that "the shutdown and a failure to pay the country's bills could devastate the economy."

But a spokesman for Boehner says the meeting is only worthwhile if it's focused on finding a solution to the government shutdown.

Obama called Democratic House members to the White House today. Officials say Obama is planning to invite senators to talk in the coming days.
