FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) The National Weather Service has issued a small stream flood advisory for west-central Coconino County until 3:45 p.m.
Flagstaff Doppler radar indicated as much as an inch and a-half of rain has fallen near Hualapai (WAHL'-uh-peye) Hilltop south of the village of Supai (SOO'-peye). As much as another inch of rain was predicted to fall from strong thunderstorms in the area.
The advisory includes Havasu Creek, Little Coyote Canyon and Hualapai Canyon which drains into Havasu Creek.
Hikers and campers in the Supai area should be aware of rapidly rising water levels in the drainages leading into Havasu Creek.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks, streams and normally dry washes.
