TUCSON - Above average temperatures kick off the long holiday weekend.

High pressure building over the Rockies keeps daytime highs near the 70 mark for Saturday, according to Meteorologist John Patrick. Temperatures take a hit Sunday in advance of our Christmas cold front with highs dropping to the mid 60s. Some high cirrus clouds will move through the southwest over the weekend with winds staying in the 5-10mph range.

A cold front moving through the state Monday afternoon is not expected to bring much in terms of precipitation to southern Arizona but we will see some cooler temperatures. Daytime highs on Christmas Eve and Christmas day will drop back below average into the low 60s. Most of the rain and mountain snow will stay in northern Arizona with this system but we can't rule out a light shower or two Monday afternoon.
