Participants will hear a short presentation from Dr. Gonzalo Celis, Carondelet Medical Group Internal Medicine Physician, talking about diabetes and the importance of exercise. Nearly 400,000 Arizonans suffer from diabetes and thousands more may have the disease and not yet know it!
"The disease is especially prevalent in Southern Arizona among the Hispanic and Native American communities," said Dr. Celis. "It's important that people become familiar with the symptoms for themselves, their family and friends."
Dr. Celis will answer questions and provide tips about how to both avoid the onset of diabetes and effectively deal with the disease if you do have it. Dr. Celis received his medical degree from the Catholic University of Chile School of Medicine in 1979. He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin's Mt. Sinai Medical Center in
Milwaukee. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
