TUCSON - One of the two people shot at a south side hotel Sunday has died, Tucson Police confirm.
David Rodriguez, 27, died at a local hospital from injuries sustained in a shooting incident on Sunday afternoon.
At about 2:11 p.m. on July 29, Tucson Policeresponded to reports of shots fired at Motel 6 on East Benson Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two victims, a man and a woman, were suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Tucson Police.
Emergency crews at the scene determined that the man was suffering from life threatening injuries. Both victims were transported to a local hospital.
An initial investigation by police at the scene indicates that two groups were involved in an altercation in the hotel parking lot. Evidence also suggests a car might have collided with a wall at the hotel.
Officers have detained several man and women for investigative reasons, and there were also indications that at least one of the persons possibly involved in the incident had gang affiliations. As a result, detectives from the Gang Investigations Unit have continued the investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 911 or 88-Crime.
